Following on the successful format from 2024 we will continue with the Solstice weekend to ensure warmer air and water temps, but still avoid the peak busy season in Northern Michigan. We will also be aligning the Immersion Camp to the weekend of the Paddle45 event so there is a race option for those interested.
The new agenda starting Friday June 20th will be structured as follows:
- Friday 4:00 – 6:00 PM – Forward stroke technique lesson on flat water – $200
- Friday 7:00 PM – Dinner and drinks at Nick’s house in Leland (included with lesson, $45 if not doing the lesson)
- Saturday 9:00 AM – 11:00 – Safety and boat outfitting. This will be an in-depth discussion on situational awareness, leash designs, rudder fixes, remounting, self rescue, group rescue, and more – $125
- Saturday 1:00 – 6:00 – Paddle45 10 Mile downwind race (See picture below), Register Here
- Saturday 1:00 – 6:00 – If you are not ready to race, we’ll offer a guided paddle at a location suitable for the group
- Saturday 7:00 – 9:00 – Post race dinner at Hop Lot Brewing in Suttons Bay
- Sunday Morning 9:00 – 11:00 – Peak Performance Discussion covering: structuring a training plan around cadence, strength and conditioning off the water, mobility for paddling longevity, nutrition, and more – $125
- Sunday afternoon – 12:00 -4:00 – DW or adventure paddle on Lake Michigan. The exact route will be determined based on conditions. We will have a beginner and intermediate group that will do separate routes suitable to skill level. – $50
The cost to sign up for the entire package is $450 (savings of $50)
What to Bring
By the third week in June we should be seeing air temps anywhere from 65-90 degrees and water temperatures in the high 50s. I recommend bringing .5 – 1.5 mm neoprene for the For Lake Michigan sessions. You should be okay with shorts and rash guard for the forward stroke session Friday.
Where to Stay
- The Leland Lodge – Situated right in town and a couple hundred yards above your primary gathering location on Lake Leelanau, this is a great option to be right in the middle of everything
- Falling Waters – Situated right in downtown Leland, in Historic Fishtown, this location is simply magical.
- Whaleback Inn – Just a quarter mile outside of town, nestled in the woods the Whaleback has some really nice options for both singles and multi-room setups
- Sunrise Landing – 20 minutes from Leland, but a beautiful spot on the water and a bit more economical
- Wild Cherry Resort – Closest camping option about 10-15 minutes from Leland
- DH Day Campground – About 30 minutes from Leland, nestled next to the infamous Sleeping Bear Dunes
